The Extended Trailer

This one is almost twice as  long as the one from this morining, and also a bit more spoilery. But in a good way.

One thing which came to my mind while watching the trailer is that Moffat said that he wants the special to "be the first step on the next journey. So looking at the trailer in this way, what if Moffat is bringing back Gallifrey. The idea would fit. After all, John Hurt's Doctor seems to be the one who destroys, sorry, time-locks it, and it takes two other Doctors to stop him, because they have figured out another way of ending the Time War, one which does not require the end of Gallifrey... At the same time I hope I'm wrong. Because it would make the story of the 1oth Doctor a bit dodgy, given the fact that one of the last things he does is to make sure that Gallifrey stays timelocked. And if we change this, then the Time Lords do not need the Master to bring their home planet back into exitance,  i.e. the Master does not conquer the earth, the whole radiation stuff never happens, because of what Wilf does not go into the chamber and does not end up knocking 4 times... Unless the Mighty Moff has another far less logical, timey-wimey solution for the plot. Let's wait and see.

The Leaked 'The Day of the Doctor' Trailer

What does not leak these days? Well, I'm far from complaining, because this way the trailer, which was supposed to air this evening, or maybe on Sunday, could not be stopped to make its way to the internet several hours earlier than the actual air date would have originally suggested. It's either that the lovely Beeb has screwed up a few things again, or someone with a TARDIS travelled to the future and did not mind to cause a tiny paradox...

So, ladies and gentlemen, here is the eagerly awaited masterpiece. And it's a good one.

'The Day of the Doctor' Marketing Campaign Is On

Once a wise man said it never rains, but pours. So the official Doctor Who marketing campaign of the BBC has started yesterday evening and we still can't see the end of it.

It all started when yesterday the guys responsible for the BBC Wales twitter account tweeted:

I.e. we'll get  a 'The Day of the Doctor' trailer this weekend. After the Comic-Con trailer disappointment this summer (they got an exclusive trailer, in fact so exclusive that it didn't even made it to the internet) this is more than just.

Additionally, there are some rather interesting interviews with the Fab Four of Who and Joenna Page. And if you prefer watching rather than reading them (because it's worth it) you can do so, by clicking on the names.

We have Steven Moffat talking about writing 'The Day of the Doctor', the reason for bringing the Zygons back, John Hurt's Doctor, and how it was to have two, well, actually 3 Doctors on set at the same time. And last but not least, how and where he's planning to spend November 23rd.

Matt Smith, David Tennant and Jenna Coleman chat about  the great time they had filming the special, the chemistry on and off set,  and how it was like to film in 3D.

And then there is Joenna Page *mild spoiler alert, seriously* who is Queen Elizabeth I in this year's special, just in case you didn't know. Actually, the whole interview should come with a 'mild spoiler alert' sign. But once you know that Queen Elizabeth I is part of the story, it's not difficult to come  up with what some part of the special will have to be about. After all, Elizabeth I has some sort of a reputation in the Whoniverse. Her describing the actually freezing picnic scene made me giggle. Because that's yet another thing Who is quite famous for and they seem to have been eager to keep up the tradition.

And last but not least, this is a friendly reminder that the BBC is asking us with this video to get #SaveTheDay trending on twitter. I think a note on Who's official site would have done it all the same...

UPDATE: And yet another Strax's field report. This time about the Zygons. Is it just me or am I getting too old for this?

Season 6 Fall News Round-up

I'm sorry for the delay, but it has beeen a while since I last felt a keypad at my fingertips. So here are the more important bits which have been revealed since my last log in:

The Comic-Con BBC America Trailer for the Fall-episodes with DoctorWhoTV's really precise analysis of it here.

A BBC Trailer for the Fall-episodes with DoctorWhoTV's analysis here.

And another BBC America Trailer for the Fall-episodes

And on the 15th August we are going to get a prequel of 'Let's Kill Hitler'. At least they make sure we get some Doctor Who during this rather long-ish summer-break.

Just for the Record...

... again.

Maybe it's just me getting old, but last year I was much more excited when the Beeb was so gorgeous to release a glimpse of the upcoming season-opener. And a few days ago the BBC gave us a... promo-something AND a proper prequel, still, somehow I can be hardly bothered to dedicate a post to them. If they had done this with 'The Eleventh Hour' (which is still an odd title in my humble opinion) last year some of us maybe would have needed tranquillisers. Ok, I'm joking. Obviously.

Well, I'm not saying the prequel isn't great, even if it is rather a combination of the 'Silence in the Library' opener and the Blink's storyline: Child's voice is recorded on a tape-recorder to deliver a cryptic message which is part of a future conversation, and therefore, only makes sense at a special point in time. Moreover we know the president is wrong, there is at least one white-ish something in the oval office which seems to be an alien. And there is certainly more from where that one came from. Let's go and poke it with a stick...

Maybe the most exiting news are that there are more and more rumours about episode 2 airing just one day after the season-opener. So it may be not entirely insensible to be looking forward to a Doctor Who Easter-weekend.

Children In Need - A Christmas Carol

Here is the link.
Don't be disappointed, it is only a trailer and not the opening minutes as I at least was hoping for. But it is nevertheless a very promising one, however, there isn't much to speculate about, at least not yet.

So, what did we get then?

We are already told that 'A Christmas Carol' is not set on earth, for what we can assume that, let's call him Mr Scrooge, is an alien who is not too fond of Christmas, which is, we remember, a very human feast and quite popular on earth but even there not everyone is happily celebrating it. Furthermore, he doesn't seem to agree about the Doctor's 'Time can be rewritten' theory. I guess it is not wrong to suppose that's why the Doctor gives him a visit, and I hope Moffat has a very sensible reason why the Doctor uses the chimney to do so. Oh, this might be just after the scene where we see him standing on the roof looking through a giant window at something that might be Mr Scrooge's home...

Additionally, that blond woman the boy (young Mr Scrooge?) is staring at in the beginning might be dead, or something similar to it, and it's not too hard to guess that somehow he is connected to her past. Just as the girl, the one saying one of the Doctor's most favourite lines. And it wouldn't surprise me if somehow Mr Scrooge were also connected to those spooky white corridors which don't seem to exist for much good.

Besides, Amy and Rory appear to end up in some trouble. I hope they won't need the Doctor's help too much, because we also know in this episode they won't spend a lot of time with him.

So, for the next month the Whoniverse has something to look forward to.

That Looks Awesome...

A few days ago the very first episode of the next season (5 or 31, just chose a number) had its premier and critics are not bad.* You can read here what The Guardian thinks it has to say about it, not much if you ask me. And this is SFX's opinion, which is worth reading. It's not giving away too much, but in a good way, although I have to admit I haven't highlighted that major spoiler. This is the BBC's statement, but somehow the writer doesn't seem to have been informed of the difference between "the Doctor" and "Doctor Who". I whish at least the BBC would get it right...

Furthermore, we have 2 new trailers (trailer 1, trailer 2, and that's the American version trailer 3). Additionally, there was a "The 11th Hour" Karen Gillan/Matt Smith interview, after which this short extract of the next episode was shown.

Somehow it's becoming hard to wait, good to know that in less than 2 weeks we are going to know how to spend our Saturday afternoons.
___________
*This is very obviously an understatement.

Voila - the Trailer

First things first, here is the link.

Honestly, it looks slightly too 3D-ish for my taste and that's not exactly a compliment. And does it have a plot?

I mean a proper one.

Well, I have to admit the fist and last seconds (the Doctor and Amy are lying on the ground and having a chat about the universe) are good, even excellent, but the parts in between are only, and exclusively trying to show off. Remembering Steven Moffat's "back to the roots" campaign; — that didn't come close to it. I'm glad that Doctor Who isn't done in wiggly studious anymore (with the oldest police box which happens to be available), but I hope that the Beeb remembers the reason why that show was and (trusting Moffat) still is successful, and by this I mean the stories and not only David Tennant's amazing acting abilities, although I quite admire him for what he did.

Anyway, back to the trailer, I guess it looks good on a big screen and if the audience happens to wear 3D-glasses, but in my world trailers which are not teasing things are a tiny bit pointless.
